Wine by Brooklyn HeartyNHB, reproduced on matte stretched canvas. Oversized purple lettering, a vivid green bottle, and overlapping pink and white forms create a layered composition against a dark background.
Wine
Wine brings together the familiar imagery of grapes, a wine glass, and oversized lettering in a composition that moves between representation and abstraction.
The purple lettering establishes the subject, while the overlapping shapes and unexpected colors disrupt the image beneath it. A small, playful illustration of grapes sits within the composition, offering a contrast to the surrounding forms.
I wanted the work to suggest the sensory experience of wine rather than simply depict it. Color, movement, and distortion take the place of a conventional still life.
The artist’s human-made design is presented in a square format with a 1.25-inch-deep profile. Choose 12 × 12 inches for a compact display, 20 × 20 inches for a more prominent placement, or 36 × 36 inches to give the work a wall of its own.
